Any of you Opponaughts that know how to read have favorite examples of books featuring driving? Like, the description of driving or speed in an effective way.

James Sallis obviously has the Drive/Driven books but he also has written a short story in Time’s Hammers about driving. It’s a fantastical story (can’t remember the name) where the driver is obviously using his imagination. After being passed by some other driver he imagines his sedate little car transforming through some techno magic into this beast of a car and chasing the other vehicle down. It had a good description of speed and power that stuck with me.

In any case, just curious as I’d like to see some good examples of driving in literature.

My favorite driving-related read is the closed captioning while watching any of the F&F movies.

Glorious, stirring sight! The poetry of motion! The real way to travel! The only way to travel! Here today — in next week tomorrow! Villages skipped, towns and cities jumped — always somebody else’s horizon! O bliss! O poop-poop! O my! O my!

Basically, Mr. Toad, a wealthy landowner, nearly gets run over by a car and immediately goes completely car-crazy. Like crackhead-in-need-of-intervention crazy and crashing a new car every week crazy. “poop poop” is him trying to imitate horn sounds.
